1. Always There for Us.
Reminiscent of a Vegas Casino, the internet is always open. It doesn’t have office hours, doesn’t get sick and doesn’t take holidays. Ever.
2. Non-Discriminatory.
The internet does not care if we are 90 or 9, like Coke or Pepsi, or using it dressed in a suit or pajamas. If we can type or speak, the internet is our friend.
3. Educational.
When computers were wheeled into classrooms in the ’80s, we had no idea what an integral part of education they would become. Walk into any home or classroom of school-aged children and we’ll see them using the internet to study, complete assignments and take exams.
4. Noteworthy News.
No longer waiting for the 6 o’clock news, the days of “This is 20/20” have been permanently replaced with up-to-the-minute news stories in real time.
5. TV.
According to statista.com (a site on the internet so we’re sure it’s accurate), “In 2020, 191.1 million adults went online via a digital device while watching digital video or traditional TV. This figure is projected to surpass 197 million second screen users in 2022.” Numb arms from holding the rabbit ears on top of the TV to get reception are a thing of the past.
6. Connection.
Email, DM’s, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and TikTok were not even real words a few decades ago. The internet has shrunk our world and made each of us connected in ways we never thought possible. And gave us cool, new lingo too.
7. Shopping.
One word – Amazon. Each and every day the internet gives us the opportunity to experience runaway alarm clocks, a new book for our book club and unicorn ice cube trays. The internet truly is the gift that keeps on giving.
8. Music.
The internet has caused us to say “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” with our 8-tracks, cassette tapes and CD’s. It allows our favorite Taylor tunes to come alive swiftly, at the touch of a button.
9. GPS.
AKA Gamechanger for those of us directionally challenged. The internet has made sure the only North and West we have to worry about belong to Kim and Kanye.
10. Vacation Planning.
From cruising the Caribbean to exploring the ruins of Rome, the freedom of dreaming and planning for our next adventure is always at our fingertips. Grazie internet, grazie.
11. Insatiable.
Just when we think we’ve reached the end of an internet search, there is always more to be discovered. Questions like “Why isn’t 11 pronounced onety one?” are answered with at least Onety One pages of sound reasoning and know-how.
