WeLink wireless network receiver attached to the roof of home

Your home is moving right along in the process, and now we’re ready to install your network receiver. Here’s what to expect at your scheduled visit.

So, you’ve picked your WeLink plan (nice choice, by the way), you’ve received your shiny new equipment during your in-home delivery, and now you’ve arrived at the next step of the process: your network receiver installation. Your wireless broadband receiver is important because it provides your home with access to super-fast upload and download speeds, ultra-wide bandwidth to support all your devices, and ultra-low latency for optimal video conferencing, gaming, and more.

You might be wondering how it all works. Here’s everything you need to know about your upcoming installation:

WeLink wireless network receiver

1. We’ll install your new WeLink network receiver.

If WeLink equipment were an entrée, your network receiver would be the meat and potatoes, because it is the most important piece — making sure your wireless broadband network is connecting to all the devices in your home without you having to lift a finger. During your installation, a WeLink Pro will attach your compact network receiver to the roof of your home. Network receivers are compact (smaller than your satellite TV dish) and incredibly efficient, so you may not even know it’s up there once we’re done.

2. We’ll connect your receiver to the wireless broadband network.

After we attach your network receiver, we’ll need to connect you to the wireless network in your area. WeLink wireless technology uses extremely narrow, 5G millimeter wave (mmWave) bands that are precisely aligned to multiple access points in order to ensure you have a reliable broadband connection at all times. This process can oftentimes be done in the same visit, but we may have to return from time to time as we continue adding more homes to the network.

3. We’ll inspect your network for quality.

Behind the scenes, our WeLink Pros will finish all the engineering work that goes into building a wireless network, including firmware, security protocols, and testing connectivity to ensure everything is ready to go before we activate. Our team of Quality Assurance Specialists that may also visit your home after the install to ensure the installation meets ours and our customers standards. Let’s just say the right quality assurance goes a long way when it comes to your home internet.

4. Trust the Pros to get the job done.

WeLink Pros are professionally trained technicians who specialize in wireless broadband hardware and rooftop installation. We’ll handle everything for you, so there’s no need to lift a finger. When we’re ready to install your network receiver, a WeLink Pro will reach out to schedule your installation time. We’ll also send you a text when we’re on our way, so you’ll always be in the loop. For this visit, you won’t need anyone home, but if you could leave your gates unlocked and keep your pets inside, we’d sincerely appreciate it. Your installation typically takes a few hours to complete, and then we’ll be done and out of your hair.

What’s next? Sit back and relax, you’re almost ready for activation.

Since we’re building your network from the ground up (literally), we need to complete this process for every home in the area before we can move to the next step. The good news is, we’ve got this process down to an art. When we’ve finished each home’s network receiver installation and alignments around the neighborhood, we’ll be able to get your home ready to activate. Then your new, ultra-high-speed internet connection is all yours.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about your WeLink network receiver installation

Q: What happens before, during, and after my WeLink network receiver installation?

A: Your receiver installation will take place after you sign up for WeLink internet service and prior to network activation. We’ll work with you to find a time that works for your installation. We’ll text you to confirm your appointment and then again when we’re on our way to your home.

Q: How long does the network receiver installation take?

A: In order for your rooftop receiver to function at peak performance, we need to securely attach your receiver to your roof and align it to other network receivers in the surrounding network. It typically takes a few hours to secure your network receiver to your roof. It may require multiple follow-up visits to align your receiver to other nearby receivers in the area, depending on the status of your broadband network.

Q: Do I need to be home during installation?

A: No, you do not need to be home this time. We just asked that you leave your gates unlocked and your pets safely put away.

Q: My home is part of a Homeowners’ Association. Can I still be part of the WeLink network?

A: Yes. Our rooftop receivers comply with FCC OTARD rules and are exempt from regulation from HOAs or municipalities. This includes both rented and owned properties.

Q: How big will my new WeLink network receiver be?

WeLink network receiver size compared to satellite TV dish receiver

A: Each individual receiver is about 4.5 by 4.5 inches, smaller than a traditional satellite dish. You may have multiple receivers in each roof mount, and in rare cases, multiple mounts, depending on your plan and location. Ask a WeLink Pro if you have questions.

Q: When will I receive my WeLink network receiver? How long before I can activate my network?

A: You’ll receive your network receiver during your installation and be ready for activation when we’ve finished aligning each home in your network. Keep in mind, from the time you sign up to the time your new internet is ready may take several weeks, depending on the state of your broadband network. Building a new network takes time to do right, and WeLink wireless broadband is up to 10x faster to build than a traditional fiber-optic cable to the home. You can learn more about WeLink wireless broadband networks here.

Q: Can I use my new WiFi after my network receiver installation is complete?

A: While you’ll have all your equipment ready to go, we’ll need to wait until each home in your network is ready so that we can activate everyone at the same time. There may be a delay between your final installation and your activation date.

Q: Does WeLink have any installation fees, setup fees, or equipment fees?

A: No, we don’t charge for standard equipment, installation, or setup. Period.

Q: Are wireless networks best for streaming videos, making video calls, and playing video games?

A: Yes. Compared to traditional, fixed-wireless networks, which typically have higher latency and therefore a slower delay, our WeLink wireless networks have ultra-low latency, 5G speeds, and faster performance.

Q: Can I cancel my current internet provider yet?

A: Since your network is not active yet, we recommend keeping your current internet service until your new WeLink service is up and running. Need tips on breaking up with your current internet provider? Learn how to break up with your old ISP and still get everything you want here.

Q: Will one WeLink network be enough to connect all my devices?

A: Yes. WeLink wireless broadband provides symmetrical, high-speed internet access to your home with ultrawide bandwidth and ultra-low latency.

Q: Will my WeLink internet work in bad weather?

A: WeLink wireless receivers are weather-resilient by design and operate in higher frequencies than traditional 5G. Network receivers are tested in some of the harshest weather conditions to ensure they can maintain a strong connection even during snow, wind, rain, etc.

Q: Do you drill holes in my roof?

A: We use non-penetrating roof mounts, which do not require drilled holes, to secure your network receiver to your rooftop.

Q: Is WeLink 5G safe?

A: Yes. WeLink 5G receivers are FCC certified and use millimeter-wave technology (mmWave), which is different from most conventional 5G. Each receiver must be precisely aligned and depends on a clear line of sight in order to operate. Plus, our receivers are extremely green, with ~1/50th the emissions compared to traditional 5G.
